Paul McCarty New Hanover School District Leader
Mr. Paul McCarty comes to Hanover School District with a rich background in educational leadership, a passion for excellence in achievement and a heart dedicated to children. Paul earned an undergraduate degree from the University of California in Santa Barbara in History with a coaching minor and a teaching credential. He added additional credentials in Special Education and School Administration from California State University and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Phoenix. Mr. McCarty has experience leading educational programs serving students in rural farm communities, suburban areas, and diverse urban school districts. He has taught a range of subjects to children from preschool through 12th grade. His administrative experience includes building level leadership as a special education department chair, principal of a primary school, directing special education programs at the district level, and directing operations for a district. He has worked with students, staff, and the community in large districts serving over 14,000 students and in small community districts such as Hanover.
The McCarty family moved from California in 2008 to support Paul’s pursuit of an opportunity in educational leadership in Colorado. Mr. McCarty is married with three children, twin stepsons both still living and working in California and a daughter who currently attends UCCS. Both Paul and his wife, Lyn, have each over twenty years of experience working in education. They met while working together as high school teachers and have followed this life-long passion together. After nearly 28 years of marriage, they continue to be dedicated to educational leadership. Mrs. McCarty currently works as a principal in Colorado Springs. Paul enjoys outdoor activities including golf and photography and shares a love of baseball with Lyn.
