Hanover Annual Santa Shop 2009

Santa Shop 2009

Dear Parents of Hanover Elementary and Junior/ Senior High schools,

Happy Holidays! I’m sending this letter as a reminder that our Annual Santa Shop will be open for business again this week.

The Santa Shop is being held at Hanover Elementary, in Room 144 located in the hallway east of the office and pre-school rooms. Donations from community members are available for parents and students to purchase with your nickels, dimes, and dollars. Prices range from 5 cents to dollars.

The Santa Shop will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and then on Thursday and Friday from 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 p.m. During the evening hours, you may enter the East door. Parking is available near the Library building and in the high school parking lot during 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Time frame is so we don’t interfere with school buses loading students. Safety Rules!

Proceeds from this year’s sales will be used to help purchase gifts for students left on the Angel Tree after December 18th. This is everyone’s way to help make the holiday season brighter in our community.

Donations of items from your family will be accepted all week during the Santa Shop. Your hand me down items are always welcomed to become a treasure in another’s home.

Thank you to all in our community to help this year to make the season brighter.

Hanover Holiday Music Program 2009

What a performance!  Hanover School District 28 put on its annual Hanover Holiday Music Program, and it was awesome.  You can tell by the picture that it was a full house with parents, family, friends, and school staff sitting in rows that started at the front of the cafeteria and reached all the way to the back with staff members having to add folding chairs along the perimiter.

Hanover Holiday Music Program

The nights program was broken into age groups.  Kindergarten to third grade performed a little play, A Penguin Christmas” which was adorable.  The children were dressed as reindeer, elves, gift wrappers, penguins, and of course Santa and Mrs. Claus.  The story took place at the North Pole and Santa was getting ready for the big event, Christmas!  Santa doesn’t leave right away because a Camera Crew and a bunch of penguins come into this usually tale.  It was awesome!  The children all had speaking parts and they sang such sweet songs.

Hanover Music Program Kindergarten to 3rd Grade

Next in line was the fourth grade choir.  They sang three songs, Up On The Housetop, We Three Kings, and Frosty The Snowman.  All the children were dressed in their nice clothes and seemed so happy to be performing.

The fifth grade choir dazzled everyone with three songs of their own, Silver Bells, Winter Wonderland, and A Holly Jolly Christmas.  You could tell that they were having a blast up on stage.  Everyone was singing with smiles.  Then came a nice treat.  The forth and fifth grade choirs combined and sang Silent Night together.  Cameras were flashing all over the room while these youngsters made family and friends proud.

The Hanover school band had their turn next.  Everyone had on their blue band pants, black jackets. and white shirts.  They looked very sharp.  They entertained the crowd with A Holly Jolly Christmas, Silent Night, The Christmas Song, and Jingle Bell Rock.

The last group of the night was the Hanover School Choir which consists of both Jr. and Sr. high students..  The boys were in black jackets, white shirts, black ties, and black pants.  The girls were in black dresses and black shoes.  Boy they looked sharp, and they sang even better.  Their performance started with a duet shared by two of the girls who truly sounded like angels as they sang Go Rest You Merry, Gentlemen.  The entire group then followed with Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells, and Carol Of The Bells.  All their songs were wonderful, but the last song of the night, Frosty The Hand Jive, brought smiles to everyone’s faces and put a tap in their feet.

All the children did an outstanding job and what a blessing to have a staff that is willing to put these programs on for our community.  Thank you to Mr. Darryl Webb, Mr. Darrel Vaughan, Mr. Mike Ferguson, Ms. Rebecca Dunn, Ms. Tricia Smith, Mr. Fernando Ornelas, and Ms. Neta Day for putting this wonderful evening together for us!  But, most of all, we want to thank the children who poured their hearts out on stage and made so many people so very happy!  Thanks kids!

Prairie Heights Elementary First Veteran’s Day Tribute

Prairie Heights 1st Veterans Day TributePrairie Heights held its first Veteran’s Day tribute and luncheon on Wednesday, November 11.  Parents and family members were invited to attend as well as local Veterans and current service men and women.  Teachers and students spent the weeks leading up to the tribute discussing freedom and thankfulness.  A bulletin board was dedicated to our heroes and photos and mementos of veterans and soldiers were hung on it.  The board was decorated by a local artist and PHE volunteer.

Prairie Heights Elementary Veterans Tribute BoardThe tribute began with the Pledge of Allegiance.  The students sang a couple of patriotic songs including My Country Tis of Thee led by Mrs. Smith, the music teacher.  The guests of honor were introduced and received a construction paper flag made by the students in Mrs. Hinnegan’s art class.  The guest speaker Maj. Todd Yackley from the Air Force Academy spoke about the cost of freedom and the value of service to our country.

The whole tribute was accentuated by a Thanksgiving luncheon complete with turkey and pumpkin pie which was prepared by Prairie Heights cook, Tony Luna.   The cafeteria was decorated in red, white and blue colors.  The turn out was wonderful and we thank all who were able to attend.

Hanover Community Gives To Others At Thanksgiving

I am sure many of you remember the phrase, “It’s more blessed to give then receive.” My Mom and Dad… I think told me that every Christmas for sure… trying to reel in my quest for toys. :) Sound familiar?

Well this year we all have an opportunity to touch someone in our own Hanover Community in the most intimate way… by feeding their family. Times are tough and most of us don’t have a lot to spare, but it still feels good and does something to us deep down when we take time to help a neighbor in need.

I want to thank the volunteers that spend a lot of time supporting Prairie Heights Elementary for putting this together. Bless all of you for thinking about your community in this way.

Attached is a form for you to fill out. Please email your response to Rebecca Dunn at rdunn@hanover.ppboces.org or aluna@hanover.ppboces.org as soon as you can.

Also, if you know a family you would like to see blessed, please pass their names along as well. Rebecca Dunn will keep both their name and yours confidential.
