Meet The Board Candidates For 2009 Election

Rik Noring
Rik Noring Jr. was born and raised in a small school district in Madison, Nebraska. In 1986 when Rik was a sophomore the Norings brought the Corvette Center in Colorado Springs. They lived in Woodland Park and Rik attended Woodland Park High School. Rik Jr. later moved to Los Angeles to finish High School and for two years, served a full time mission for his church in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors degree in History in 1996. After graduation he went to work in a technical sales management position at Vantage Controls in Orem, Utah. His responsibilities included outside sales in the North Eastern territory of the US. His responsibilities in this aspect involved training of programmers and sales staff through out the world. After 9 years of work with Vantage Controls, he grew tired of the extensive travel. In 2005 Rik moved back to Colorado to re-join the family business as it moved to the present location in the Midway area.
Rik is married to Florece and has three children in the Hanover District; Carlie is a freshman, Ricky is in 5th grade and Dagny is in 3rd. He presently lives on the Cactus Creek Ranch where the Corvette Center is located. He enjoys taking his Corvette racing, both in autocrosses and to the local area tracks. Rik’s current responsibilities at the Corvette Center are the day to day management of the operations. Interfacing with other Corvette enthusiasts is his favorite part of the day; helping others to find, fix, or upgrade their dream car.
Rik will bring his education and his business experience to the Board of Education. Rik’s experience as part of both small and very large school districts will provide additional perspective on problems that the Hanover District faces. He has chosen to be involved because he firmly believes in a statement by English philosopher Edmund Burke: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

Mark McPherson
Howdy,
My name is Mark McPherson. Many of you know me as “Mr. Mac” or “Coach Mac”. Susie and I moved to Hanover in December of 1998 after being reassigned to Fort Carson from the Pentagon. My intent and what eventually happened is that I retired from the Army and made Hanover our home. We were particular about where we wanted to settle down and took several years before finally choosing Hanover (Thank you Nancy Uldrickson for your support in helping us to make up our mind and select the wonderful place we call home). After I retired as a Health Care Executive for the Army, we moved to Milne Road.
A fortunate opening at Hanover led me to a career change. Our school was looking for a middle school science teacher. I applied for and was selected to serve our kids and community as a science teacher in the middle school. What a great time. We had a wonderful team that grew from two to four middle school teachers. While we served during that time, our middle school was awarded the Governors award for most improved as we worked together to find ways to reach our kids. Our CSAP scores improved while our kids had fun learning.
After three years, I was transferred to the high school where I taught Chemistry, Biology and several other science courses. My challenge there was how do we make learning in science fun and a quality learning experience? One answer came as I found the opportunity to obtain some grant money after I was told there was no funding available for any other courses. So, I gathered our students in science and together, we designed a course and applied for funding through the Michael Jordan Foundation. Imagine our surprise when we received the funds and launched our Forensics course (or as our students called it – CSI Hanover). It was another great opportunity that was created by students and staff working together to better our education and learning system.
On a side note, during these six years I was asked to serve as the President of the Hanover Community Parks and Projects Inc, the organization that built Kirk Hanna Memorial Park across from the school. This was a tremendous team effort of our community members and friends to raise funds and then obtain grants from the Great Colorado Outdoors programs. Together, we raised the funds, purchased the equipment, and worked hard to help install the wonderful park where we now have movies in the summer, ice cream socials, cemetery shuffles and tons of other wonderful activities. I am proud of the efforts and enjoyed every moment we spent on building this wonderful park. A special thanks to all of the committee and community members who helped build and the members who help maintain this piece of our community!
During this time, I looked at combining my teaching and administrative abilities and completed an educational leadership program. Unfortunately, there was not the opportunity that would permit me to remain in Hanover so I transferred to Woodland Park where I served in the high school as an assistant principal for three years. I learned a great deal about leading school buildings and working with teachers and administrators to improve the education during that time. At the three year mark, we decided that although we loved Woodland Park, we did not want to leave our wonderful home here. Besides, the commute was getting more tedious so we looked for positions elsewhere. I landed in my current position as the Executive Director for Human Resources in Falcon School District.
All of this is nice information but what does it mean? Simply put, I am a person who values not only education but more importantly those we educate. I have dedicated the past few years of my life to students, family and community in the belief that working together is the only way to provide what is really needed, a complete wrap around education that gives our students the abilities to do whatever they desire to do when they graduate.

Jim Tyler
I have lived in the district for over 22 yrs now, and I have been married to my lovely wife, Sylvia, for over 24 years. We have two wonderful daughters, Morgan who graduated from Hanover and now attends CSU-Pueblo and Jamie who is currently a 7th grader in Hanover. I am the owner/general manager of Paul Davis Restoration in Pueblo Colorado. I have been involved in the school district for the past 14 years, and I have been on the BOE for 6 years. Currently, I coach high school football, and I am the girls varsity basketball coach. I have enjoyed watching so many of our young people grow into such wonderful, young adults, and I look forward to the continued positive growth of our district.
As a member of the BOE, I have been a past Board President, have sat on several committees to include the construction committee that built both schools in Rancho and Hanover; both were completed at or below budget.
I continue to keep our student’s safety and well being as priority number one. I believe it is our reasonability to make sure we are providing the best/safe educational experience we can for our children. I will bring proven leadership and experience to the community and taxpayers of our wonderful district.
